If you have fallen sick or you need professional help of a doctor during your stay in Central Finland, you have to follow the following steps. Firstly, check your travel insurance for further instructions. If you are an EU citizen, you can receive treatment in public hospitals and health centres with a small charge with the EU insurance card in cases of acute illnesses. Please contact your insurance company, if you want to use services of private hospitals in Finland.

Please remember that medicines in Finland can be purchased only with a prescription from a doctor. There are some medications that can be purchased without a prescription: e.g. medication against cold, stomach disorders and some mild painkillers. Vitamins, cosmetics and dietary supplements are also sold without a prescription.
